America’s Silent Scream for Change
It’s no secret amongst my friends and colleagues with whom I talk politics that I do not endorse Donald Trump’s behavior as it relates to public discourse. That said, the American voter is disinterested in how he conducts his personal life and loathe the constant hand-wringing the media industry does over Trump himself. When he says fake media, perhaps he is pointing to the failure to cover the issues with which the voter is concerned, overwhelmed by the breathless coverage of his foibles.
Voters came out in force for his unwavering defense of change. Change in how we do business in politics, how we fail to engage in issues that are relative to their real-life struggles and failure to do the jobs to which politicians have been elected. Look at the color map of where voters are -- the bleeding red from sea to shining sea is blue in only the most affluent and populous of places.
It is time to stop the unrelenting coverage of the man and return to the coverage of the stories of the American people that need economic relief. Those who are living in communities overwhelmed with addiction, homelessness and joblessness. It is time for the American media corporations to stop painting a picture that is blue or red and start focusing on one that is uniquely different, while also united in screams for change.
Until media owners recognize the need to stop chasing stories that line their own pockets and allow their journalists to cover the stories that are so needing to be told, the food fight over media dominance will continue and the slow death of our news sources will continue.
The American people have left traditional media in the pursuit of coverage that feels curated and special to them. It’s because of that the media industry is suffering – the blame should not go to the front lines of reporting – the blame is squarely on the head of the owners and the greed that comes with the relentless pursuit of a deeply flawed candidate who was elected precisely because he is an agent of chaos at a time when America is willing to take that chance.
